Tree Removal

Another reason tree removal is important is to prolong the life and health of your property. Some trees develop certain diseases which can spread to other trees. Skilled in the identification of tree diseases and pests, Athens Arborist knows when removing that tree is the best option to ensure that the rest of your property stays healthy. Removals are also done to eliminate competition so the remaining plants have more light and space to develop.

At Athens Arborist, our main priority when it comes to tree removal is to take the time to have the least impact on your property and to leave it in better shape than when we arrived.

Tree removal is the most hazardous aspect of arboriculture. Often, tree workers must remove trees growing in confined spaces near homes, utility lines, and other trees growing sensitive areas.

At Athens Arborist Tree Care, we are highly trained in the art and science of tree removal. Our goal in all of our tree work is to provide thorough cleanup of debris and cause minimal impact to surrounding vegetation and property.

Tree Trimming and Tree Pruning

Young Tree Pruning

One aspect of pruning that is most frequently overlooked by consumers is structural pruning of young trees. Pruning trees when they are young and growing quickly is critical to ensuring a strong framework for future growth. This pruning focuses on maintaining a single dominant stem unless multiple stem “clumps” are specifically desired. Branches are pruned so their size remains proportional to the stem diameter at their point of attachment.

As trees grow, some branches are removed to ensure adequate spacing between permanent scaffold limbs. The shape of the tree is maintained to provide a natural open grown form typical of the species.

Mature Tree Pruning

On mature trees, pruning is required to remove dead and dying branches to maintain plant health and safety. This pruning type is referred to as cleaning.

Stump Grinding

Having stumps left behind is not only unpleasing to the eye but they can come with unwanted guests such as termites, ants and even fungal disease. Stump grinding chips away the stump to around 10-15 inches grade level by the use of special equipment designed specifically for this. This is the most cost effective and efficient way to remove the remaining tree stump.

This technique removes stumps with virtually no damage to your property. After the stump is removed, you can cover it up with grass or mulch and get ready for new landscaping. It is like nothing was ever there.

Tree Planting

Planting trees is one of the most basic of environmental acts. It embraces the beauty of nature, helps clean the environment from the moment of planting, and sets one’s mind on the well-being of future generations.

A Healthy Start for Trees

Early spring and late fall, when the climate is moderate and trees are dormant, tend to be the easiest times to successfully plant trees.

Before planting trees, there are a few considerations to get those trees off to a healthy start so you can enjoy their beauty. Athens Arborist takes the time to carefully consider how appropriate a tree is for your site.  We look for overhead wires or underground utilities that might be in your way. Available sunlight and soil drainage are also important along with the expected size of the tree and growth rate.

Meeting the tree’s growing requirements will help the tree grow strong and will help it to flourish for decades.

Proper Planting Ensures Strong Tree Establishment

By choosing a professional arborist to plant your new tree, you can avoid common tree planting mistakes like digging the hole too deep, the wrong soil amendments,  or surrounding the tree with too much mulch.

Improper tree planting encourages girdling roots that encircle the tree or even disease decreasing its longevity. That’s why we manage everything from planting, to proper staking if needed to advising you on the proper watering required for strong tree establishment.

Athens Arborist has the expertise to properly plant your tree for the best of success.

Cables and Brace Installation

Cables and brace rods are supplemental structural supports intended to reduce the risk of failure of weak branches and multiple stems.

Cabling Co-dominate Trunks

Trees may develop several dominant trunks – called codom stems. As trees grow older, these  potentially weak points can split at the “V” or crotch, shortening the life of the tree. Cabling and brace rods reduce the potential of this type of failure.

Brace Rods

To preserve and protect! Here at Athens Arborist, we specialize in Tree Preservation.

Braces are threaded rod that are installed through unions of weak branches and multiple stems to provide more rigid support from torsional or twisting forces that can occur in violent weather.
